  • I was getting a bit sunned out on the beach so I went for a walk to the cliffs at the end of the beach. I got to the top and heard a splash. Someone had jumped off what looked like an impossible jump. I bumped into what looked like parents who told me "you need to be our fearless seventeen year old to try that". That spurred me on. I returned to the beach, secured my sunglasses, phone and flip-flops, and re-climbed the cliffs. I jumped. It was VERY high. I swear I was in the air for many seconds. I swam in with the seventeen year old who had also jumped, again. We were triumphant together.

Twenty meters from shore I heard someone shout shark. I looked to my left and within touching distance there was a fin. A big fin. Black and white moved slowly by. I sped up my swimming but then worried if that would make me look more appetizing. I reached shore and my waiting wife (a shark-a-phobe) reassured me it was a massive manta ray. The whole beach watched it loll just off-shore for a half hour. We left as the sun set. A great honeymoon memory.
