11 Years old - 1957, Lusk, Wyoming; active in Cub Scouts, tree climbing, and I remember fighting with Jerry Scott on the walk home from school that September day, about who was adopted (we both were). 22 years old - 1968, based in Los Angeles; touring the U.S.A. with “The kids Next Door”. On my birthday we were performing at the University of Illinois, opening for The Ed Ames Show, with Flip Wilson, Springfield, IL. After the last show we found an all night laundramat and sang as we did our laundry. I can’t remember how many colleges we performed at that September. I do remember watching the Democratic Riots from a room in the Conrad Hilton-Chicago in August. I remember the TV news broadcast after our last show at the Golden Nugget, Sparks, NV - Bobby Kennedy was shot in LA - June. I can’t remember where i was when Martin Luther King, Jr. was assassinated in April - Memphis. Somewhere on the road.
I digress. Back to the numbers.

The image of shoe flinging is to signal my preparation for leaving this area, to find new and unexplored desert islands of humanity. Like Cervantes’ Don Quixote, I will fight windmills, dream impossible dreams, and continue to bare, to run, to follow, to reach . . . . . . . . . . . .and onward . . . . . . . I go.
