  • My first poetry workshop in a rural school will be tomorrow.

I have written my scheme of work and planned the route to Knocknagor School

I will taking a bus to Irvinstown and then a taxi ‘into the depths of the country side’, (according the headmaster).

I have gathered some resources for the five senses activity that are not too heavy for me to carry in my bag.

I have made soup for three days.

Next on the list will be to phone the taxi company and ask them how much the fare will be. I have £50 budget from the Community Arts Council to spend on travel.

The great thing is that now I am on the email list of poetry facilitators I am getting wonderful invitations to perform in poetry slams and storytelling evenings in Belfast. Unfortunately the last bus from Belfast is seven in the evening; but I feel as if a whole new world has been opened up to me.

Three years ago I took part in a course to learn how to perform in front of an audience, called the Mastery. I know how to look around the room making contact with each member of the audience, speak clearly and appear relaxed. My only problem is my memory. I will have to recite the poems over and over again, recording the results in order to memorise my work. It beats just staying at home and watching television though.
