  • This is a story about BIG MILLY and little molly.
BIG MILLY was the big sister and
little molly was her little sister.

When Mam first came home from the hospital with little molly
BIG MILLY wasn’t sure that she was going to like being a big sister.
    little molly cried.
    little molly slept.
    little molly drank her milk.
little molly took up lots of Mam and Dad’s time.

After a couple of weeks BIG MILLY sat down with her Mam and Dad and said
“I’m not sure about being a big sister.
All the things that little molly does aren’t fun.
Can we take her back to the hospital please?”

    Mam explained
    “It doesn’t work like that.
When you are big sister you are always a big sister.
You have to make sure that little molly is always safe
and look after her when Mam and Dad are not around.”

BIG MILLY gave it some thought.

On Monday, at Nap Time, BIG MILLY and little molly were in their room
    and Mam was downstairs.
    little molly was fast asleep.
    BIG MILLY was wide awake.

A big green alien came in through the window.
He had bulging eyes, a round belly and webbed feet.

BIG MILLY was a bit scared but she knew,
    as her Mam was downstairs,
that she had to look after little molly.

She stuck out her tongue at the alien.
The alien was so scared that he jumped back out the window
and went back to his home Planet.

On Tuesday, at Nap Time, BIG MILLY and little molly were in their room
    and Mam was downstairs.
    little molly was fast asleep.
    BIG MILLY was wide awake.

A big purple furry monster came in through the window.
She had huge feet, spiky ears and a sticky out tongue.

BIG MILLY was a bit scared but she knew,
    as her Mam was downstairs,
that she had to look after little molly.

She put her hands over her head and waved them around.
She shouted “BOO!” at the top of her voice.
The monster was so scared that she jumped back out the window
    and went home to Monsterland.

On Wednesday, at Nap Time, BIG MILLY and little molly were in their room
    and Mam was downstairs.
    little molly was fast asleep.
    BIG MILLY was wide awake.

A spooky white ghost appeared at the window.
It had dark eyes, floated outside the window and shouted “BOO!”

BIG MILLY was a bit scared but she knew,
    as her Mam was downstairs,
that she had to look after little molly.

She jumped in the air, opened her mouth wide
    and roared, very loudly.

The ghost was so scared it disappeared into the air.

On Thursday, at Nap Time, BIG MILLY and little molly were in their room
    and Mam was downstairs.
    little molly was fast asleep.
    BIG MILLY was wide awake.

A Tyrannosaurus Rex dinosaur came in through the window.
She had a massive green tail, sharp teeth and she roared, very loudly.

BIG MILLY was a bit scared but she knew,
    as her Mam was downstairs,
that she had to look after little molly.

She stood in front of little molly’s Moses Basket and in her best big sister voice shouted
“Go away and leave my little sister alone!”
The Tyrannosaurus Rex was so impressed with BIG MILLY’s bravery,
as she had a little sister too,
that she jumped back out the window and went back to prehistoric times.

On Friday, at Nap Time, BIG MILLY and little molly were in their room
    and Mam was downstairs.
    Nothing happened.
There were no aliens, monsters, ghosts or dinosaurs.

    BIG MILLY was worried.
How would little molly know that she was a good big sister if she didn’t look after her?

It was the end of Nap Time and Mam came up to bring them both down to play.
BIG MILLY and Mam looked into the Moses Basket.
When little molly saw BIG MILLY she gave her the biggest smile and giggled.
“MILLY you must be the best big sister in the whole world, Molly has never giggled before!”
    said Mam.

    BIG MILLY smiled.

She was still a good big sister, even if she hadn’t fought off
    aliens,
    monsters,
    ghosts or
    dinosaurs.

She had made little molly happy and that was the best thing of all!
