  • We're almost home when we realize we still have one more errand, so my husband takes an unfamiliar side-street...just to flip a u-turn. The street is crowded with parked cars and I see a baby, nothing on but a diaper, slow-toddling down the sidewalk.

    I cry, Stop! there's a baby!

    We don't stop.

Look, that baby is walking down the street and there's no one in sight!

I frantically crane my neck to as I loose sight of the little one.

Stop this car right now, I wanna get out! I'm a grown woman, let me out!

    It's none of your business
, he says as the car makes a three-point turn, not slowing enough for me to get out.

We have to help the baby, I whimper.

As we pass the blond-headed child, I notice
a mother run frantically out of a home a few doors down. She's carrying a dishtowel and searching, frantic...

I see her see her baby

    as we turn into traffic.
