  • Ah Davey,
you know I love you dear,
    about this one thing
    let me be absolutely clear:

    Nothing in these brief lives
is so much a heartless killer,
so the rotten, no good thief
    this traitor known as fear:

    Poison to the well-laid plan,
    plague on every fresh-start charm,
    paralysis it is to courage,
    to befriending one’s own man.
    Our single greatest, possible source
    of self-inflicted harm.

    Fear to be nothing special,
    fear to be small.
But that’s what it is lad,
    looking-out on it all.

    Fear:
    To live in one’s skin,
with whatever it is you`ve got,
    knowing nothing’s certain,
    not the idea of certain
    not even our next breath.

    Fear:
    Great big fuck-up,
    keeps us hardline, never soft,
    fear to be vulnerable
    exposed to truth.

    Ah Davey,
    you KNOW the story ending
    our hero lives-out his scheme,
    Robin does-in a thieving sheriff,
    Bogart, the African Queen.

    Ah Davey,
    not-one-thing-in-these-few-years
    is such a spineless bully,
    imposter clothed in cowardice
    this traitor, known as fear.

    Go to what's devolving
    upon your harp strings true:
one chance to listen to it
    once to play it through.

    Fear-the-great-big-boogie-man
    Fear-who’s-afraid-of-the-dark,
    Fear’s a backstabbing overlord,
    sidekick henchman his ? mark.

    Ah Davey,
you know I love you dear,
    about this one thing
    let me be absolutely clear:

    Nothing in these brief lives
is so much a heartless killer,
so the rotten, no good thief
    the traitor known as fear.

    post script:
woke from sleep this morning with a poem in my head
    today, my fifty-seventh turn
thoughts for all my dear ones, a few who know me well
fond regard for a new-found friend
I know I will meet anon.
Not so much addressed to me
as to David Melvin & David Watt,
    [two-thirds of three-muskateers]
it is also for the Judaic regent,
Davey Crockett & who knows who.
    Have no fear today.

Life is what happens to you while you’re busy making other plans. J. Lennon
