  • I'm in awe of the natural world. I love thermophilic worms and luminescent squid, dragonfly eyes and butterfly feet, but the best moments come when I learn something new about the world that's commonplace. It's like finding a new colour- suddenly the world is deeper by one more hue. This summer it was clover. Somehow I had never noticed what clover blossoms smelled like. It's not like I don't have a sense of smell, it was always there- but bang, suddenly I KNEW what that scent was, and I smelled it everywhere. Abandoned lots and roadsides thrilled me, I hung my nose out the window everywhere, breathing great whiffs of the pink clover-scented air. Summer will never be quite the same.
