  • I have been counting down to today for the last 1008 days. Today, my youngest daughter starts Kindergarten.

1008 days ago, she started preschool. 908 days before that, she was born. And1750 days before that, I became a mother for the first time.

But today, I stop counting. Today, I am free. Today is the first day of the rest of my life.

So far I have driven to the car dealership to get an oil change, jaywalked across a divided highway to grab coffee, then stopped in a pet store to buy cage bedding for my middle daughter's guinea pig.

Yes, today is the first day of the rest of my life.
