  • So hear me now, before this congregation,
I will plead my case, proclaim my cause,
and will abide by your decision. This course
that I have followed was not by my free will,
for I was chosen before time to fill this role
as villain. Within this grand design, when He
who made all things, created man and beast,
He knew mere puppets would not suffice
to serve His needs, and to create His ultimate design,
they must suffer pain and humiliation and death,
and must unite against a common foe.
To this end, He created me,
and set me on the stage as second in command,
and knew the power he placed within my hand
was absolute, second only to his own,
allowed me to be filled with pride, emotion new
and foreign to my heart, so from the start
I had no opportunity to know the penalty
for dreams and deep desires. Is it so strange
to think that I would want to know
the feeling of command that gave this God
His power? Is it any wonder I became corrupted?
    Cast within this Titan's game,
is it right that I should bear the blame?
There can be no good without the evil,
    no light without the darkness,
    no redemption without sin.
For centuries, I was a pawn as you were,
condemned to play this role, me and my minions,
guilty of no more than roles within this play,
written and directed by the God who by His own
    proclamation is Omnipresent, Omnipotent,
    and above all, Omniscient.
    He knew, by His admission,
I would serve as foil and foe,
    and having done my part,
I ask no more than I am due,
that I and those who serve me,
be released from this unholy service,
    and pardoned for our roles.
This play has run its course,
and we have seen the curtain fall,
my reign is over, what purpose now is served
in punishment for sin that will not matter
in this new universe? With these last words I ask,
that you assume the task of judgment based
on centuries of mercy, love, and grace
    learned from His hand.
