  • Once upon a time there was a little blond haired, blue eyed girl who loved the beach more than any other place on earth. She loved everything about it. She loved climbing on the rocks, looking for shells, finding pretty sea glass, and special pebbles. Every item she found was a treasure as far as she was concerned. She carried her bounty back to her playhouse where she stored them for safe keeping.

She liked throwing rocks in the ocean and watching the lobster boats, sailboats, and even the planes as they traveled across the sky. She reveled in the blueness of both sky and water. The clouds above made her smile with delight. She gathered lobster buoys that washed up on the shore and dreamed about seeing a mermaid swimming in the sea.

She loved mermaids most of all. Ever since she saw a picture of one on her grandmother’s wall, she was fascinated by them. As soon as she learned to say mermaid, she talked about them a lot. Whenever she took a bath, she tried to swim like one in the tub. She’s pretty sure that’s what she wants to be when she grows up. It could happen. Who am I to say it couldn’t? Stranger things have been known to occur.
