  • The songs I wrote before, during and after living in Amsterdam are the musical equivalent of the emotional roll-a-coaster I was on at the time.

If I ever get around to recording an album featuring those songs, it will be called "Baggage Claim." The cover will be a black & white photograph of me standing in front of a huge pile of suitcases in the middle of the street where I use to live. Ideally, it will be raining.

    BAGGAGE CLAIM (1999)
When they told me about the rain in Amsterdam
    What did I care?
Life was pouring down on my parade
I couldn't get any wetter there

They told me it was cold and grey
    Most of the time
    Sounds like the perfect climate
For my cloudy state of mind

Nothing's changed, just a different place
New mirror, but the same scarred face
I thought I left this baggage behind when I packed my suitcase

Knowing I am far from home, they ask
    "What brings you here?"
It's a love story gone wrong, I say
One that you don't have time to hear

In short, things didn't turn out for me
The way I wanted them to
And since I couldn't run from myself
This was the next best thing to do

Nothing's changed, just a different place
New mirror, but the same scarred face
I thought I left this baggage behind when I packed my suitcase

    Strangers cannot recognize
    What old friends surely see
That's why there's someone wandering these stormy streets
Who happens to look a lot like me

    I don't really know
How long I plan to stay
Maybe 'til the rain in Amsterdam
Washes what I can't run from away

Nothing's changed, just a different place
New mirror, but the same scarred face
I thought I left this baggage behind when I packed my suitcase
