  • New York is a place of hustling and honking and directness and screaming and yelling and alltogetherness and brusqueness and fundamental kindness and it calms me like no other place.

    After landing at LaGuardia, I embarked on the generic horizontal trajectory through the airport toward baggage claim and ground transportation. This “E” was the first real sign to me that I was home.

    Maybe this won’t make sense to anyone who doesn’t live here. But maybe all airports are generic up to a point, when suddenly some little sign hints at their unique culture.
