  • I used to wear sundresses and laugh in the rain. I used to ride a motorcycle, a snowboard, a 4-Wheeler, and in-line skate until it was dark. But I was younger then and thought the world was my playground.
I still ride occasionally but mostly my time is spent planting, weeding, harvesting, and selling the fruits of my labor. It seems I've traded my fun time for my passion.
It's not that I regret my choice.... I love being a farmer and living off the land. I don't have a lot of free time or money but I've gained so much more.
We have helpers that come from all over the world to spend a month or so helping out on our farm in exchange for room and board. I live vicariously through them as they tell me of their travels through Europe, South and Central America, Mexico, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, China and across the U.S. - so many different people, different ages, different cultural and economic backgrounds. People who have forsaken possessions in exchange for backpacks and the experience of living with a greater purpose than the 9-5 lifestyle so ingrained in our culture.
What we all have in common is a passion for being self sufficient, self sustaining and a belief in doing something that makes a difference, living off the grid and away from corporate greed.
I don't wear sundresses anymore, but neither do they.
