  • What are you doing?
    Where are you going?
Are you happy not talking to anyone?
How is that being off the grid?
Do you like not being able to go online?
    Why are you alone here?

    Why do you keep going?
Do you really know what you are doing?
How many times are you going to listen to this angry song?
    Are you in tune?
    Do you have a plan?

    Why is she not ready?
Have you not been patient enough?
Why did she invite you to come out?
Why did you not double check?
    What was your rush?
Did you need to plant a stake?

    Why aren't you facing this?
What would you ask if you could?
What the bleep is wrong with you?
Why do you have to wait, wait, wait?
Why are you listening to me?

    What is it you want?
Are you getting what you want?
Do you know what you want?
Do you think you are getting what you want?
Why do you have to wait?
    Haven't you waited long enough?

And why are you thinking about who is ahead?
What is that you are imagining?
Who are you kissing in that day dream?
    Isn't that unrealistic? Foolish?
Why are you dwelling on a day dream?
Do you know what you are doing?

    Well, do you?

I am using Cowbird to share the story of a 15,000 mile road odyssey I took in 2011, which started with me quitting my job in March and setting out in June for a loop around the US and Canada. It's less of a day by day narrative and more of an attempt to tell a story of the story, with some amounts of imagined bits that emerge on looking at the media from the trip, including the more than 1400 images, videos, and audio files collected in my digital time capsule, the Storybox.
