  • His nets and oars are draped and stacked against the rocks and the Poet Fisherman
is daydreaming again. Giving form to his fantasy. Bringing her forth from the foaming sea.
    Ethereal. Radiant. Aloof.

    The wind
    That whips
    The whitecaps
    Blows unmindful
    Of the ebb
    And flow
    Of flotsam

    And of jetsam
    Such as we
    Tossed about
    Upon life’s sea

We surf the waves of living
We wade the tide of fears
We drown in swells of laughter
We tread the troughs of tears

    The wind
    That whips
    The whitecaps
    Blows unmindful
    Of the storm of years
The Poet Fisherman by Antonio Gattorno. 1941. Oil on masonite panel.
