  • About fifteen years ago I was standing lonely at party on a boat south of Miami. I had never been to Florida before and knew nothing about manatees. So, when I looked over the stern and saw the most beautiful pair of brown eyes staring lovingly up at me I just stared back . I was grateful for the company. I did not even ask questions. What a gift. Soon my husband came over and told me about the creature but for a moment in time she was not other, she was friend. This ancient mammal being is a survivor. They are so much more than cute.
