  • He won't let you. Jonah found out the hard way.

When God told him to be a prophet, Jonah tried to get on a ship to escape to another country. But the ship ran into a terrible storm, so all the people on the ship prayed to their gods and asked them to stop the storm. They noticed Jonah was not praying, so they asked him why. When Jonah told them he was a Jew, they knew Jonah's God was causing the storm, so they threw him overboard, and the storm stopped.

God had Jonah swallowed by a big fish, and he spent three days in the fish's belly. Can you imagine it? It had to smell worse that anything you can imagine. Undigested food, stomach acid, and only God knows what else was in there. Phew!

After three days, the fish spits Jonah up on the beach where he is supposed to prophesy. Can you imagine what Jonah looked like? Clothes stinking of fish and sea water, parts of his clothing eaten away by the stomach acid, pieces of dead fish and seaweed stuck to him. And he proceeds to walk through the streets of Nineveh and shout in a loud voice "Repent". I don't know about you, but I'd listen.

Trying to run away from God is never a good idea.
