  • We arranged to meet our daughter, her husband and our six month old granddaughter, Ruby at London Bridge Station, so that we could explore Borough Market together. Ruby made my day by welcoming me with a big smile.

As we left the station I noticed for the first time that The Shard, grew upwards 309.6 metres (1,016 ft) high, the tallest completed building in Europe, from the new entrance of London Bridge Station.

Architects have managed to morph the ancient with the new in a totally unexpected way.

It was really hot day, 30 degrees Celsius; so unusual for London. My daughter decided to stay with Ruby in a cool café whilst I explored the market with D.

It is an amazing market. There are stalls selling exotic meat (Kangaroo and Ostrich), pate from France, amazing vegetables, Mexican food, vegan food, cheeses from all around the world.
D is a keen meat eater, but has come to terms with having vegan parents in law. He led me to a vegan non wheat burger stall and wandered off to find some freshly baked bread.

We ate our lunch in a garden next to the market listening to live music and then made our way to catch a train to Plumstead.

I took this photo as the train left the station.
