  • "Mad dogs and Englishmen go out in the midday sun." ~ Noel Coward

"Can we have some more water please. Because it's very hot" Came the voice from the Anonymous member on the megaphone in the direction of their support base.

"We should all drink lots of water. Make sure you drink water everybody." He added helpfully to the rest of us.

I went off to find a cafe in the shade, drank a litre of water and ate something before heading home, the headache already beginning to hit.

Later that night as I vomited into the toilet I was glad he'd mentioned it, even if it was a little too late for me to stave off the inevitable heatstroke. Whiter than the midday sun myself, I had put sunblock on but still walked around for hours with no hat or water on a baking day when, it turns out, London was hotter than the Sahara. I somehow manage to make this same error every year. It must be something inherent to my nature!
