  • Rainy days have the best puddles.

At the end of a day filled with too much responsibility and mounting frustration I hid in my studio upstairs while my 2-year-old pleaded from downstairs "please mommy come down...mommy! mommy! I want to come upstairs!" I repeated my newest mantra over and over to myself 'stay stress free in a stressful situation. stay stress free in a stressful situation...please, self, relax.'

After my respite I let go of trying to manage the evening. When my little adventurer squirmed away from her toothbrush I tickled her and got her teeth brushed just well enough. When she splashed water all over her just-put-on pajamas I snuggled her, made faces with her in the mirror, tugged her hair into ridiculous styles and let bedtime pass. When she ran anywhere but towards her crib I chased after her and when I caught her I let her run again. Finally, depositing her in her crib with a smile on her face she quickly fell asleep and I decided to turn my computer off and call it a day.

    Exhale. Success.
