  • When the theme of "outsiders" first came out, I wrote a story about being an outsider--OUTSIDE, but I never had a chance to post it. Too dang busy!

Here are some additional thoughts, in case I find and post the other story: I'm 66. I've spent a good part of my life OUTSIDE--that is--OUTDOORS! I worked as a naturalist, did a lot of camping, hiking cross-country skiing.

When I was in 8th grade, I took the Kuder preference test to see what jobs I might best be suited for--and I scored way higher on OUTDOORS than on any other category, with biology and writing being next highest. I truly love the out-of-doors. I'm an outsider through and through.

Sadly, outdoorsy people are becoming more and more "outsiders" in the other sense of the word, as people turn toward computers and indoor activities. This is bad for the earth--we are becoming estranged from the earth. And that could kill us all.
