  • I finally got out to Arizona to visit my mother. I hadn't been out there since dad's funeral, and this was actually my first visit to her new place. My brother and his family were visiting, too. It was so great to spend the week with them all.

It was July, and it was over 100 degrees every day we were there. We spent most of the day in the house (in air conditioning), but after 3, we would go out to the pool in back and cool off. My brother enjoyed playing with the camera in his phone. He showed me some of the photos he had taken, then reworked with an app on the phone.

He was taking a photo of himself while we were in the pool, and I just slid in next to him, just as he was taking the shot. My eyes were half-closed as I was just looking up (and looking into the sun). My brother clicked the photo and then used some random choice tool; it came out like a Dali piece of art.

My brother and I have always been close. This made me feel like we were kids; like time had not gone by and we had never changed.
