  • We went to Catalina Island for a late anniversary trip, and I got to start on the journey of fulfilling a lifelong dream of SCUBA diving. We took lessons last year in full gear in a pool, but that's not the same as having nature going crazy all around you. We found a company offering SNUBA diving (which I thought was a typo at first). The air canister floats on the surface in a raft while you dive below on a long breathing line.

I'm amazed I was able to stay still in the current. We got buffeted around quite a bit. The fish! There were so many of them. They'd get nervous as we approached, but thanks to their horrible memory retention, forget about us and then come in to explore. There were bright orange Garibaldi and a lot of other fish I couldn't identify. If I ever get enough spare cash, I'll get certified to dive out here and have a lot more time to see and explore things. We had a new underwater camera as well, and since I couldn't post the video here, I just ripped the audio so I can always remember breathing underwater.
