  • This is Poppy. We bought her so that she could be company for our older Labrador, Molly. Never did we realise the character she would develop and the way in which she would touch our hearts. If ever there was a definition of unconditional love, it was Poppy. No matter how bad your day had been, she would be waiting at the door for you, not just wagging her tail but her whole back end wagging in time with her tail; she was so pleased to see you, it would wash away all the bad stuff.

She was a scavenger and no food, or anything else, was out of bounds to her. She also smiled alot; a strange to say, but the happiness oozed out of her and was very infectious. She had a strange way of settling herself every night: she would lie on her front and then rub her ears with her paws, she would then promptly fall asleep; add to that, the nightly cuddle with my wife and you could see why she was a people dog.

If I was ever working at home, she would be as close as she could possibly get to me; she even went as far as going under the desk to be near to her pack.

She ws taken from us too early and has left a gaping hole in our lives. As I type this, a half expect to feel her nuzzling at my knee, waiting to be stroked, but she's not there and our lives are so much the poorer for her loss.
