  • They look like fish, she said. They stare through me with their cold, red eyes, they stare without blinking their eyes like I didn’t exist. They stare and shine in their glittering clothes but their shine doesn’t warm me up. It makes me feel still colder inside.

They sound like fish. Their open their mouths but I can hear nothing. They talk to each other and chat and exclaim oh my god and nod and laugh and tell more stories to each other so they can laugh and say oh my god oh my god some more as they walk past me. But I can hear nothing. They don’t talk to me.

They touch like fish, she said. When they sometimes touch swiftly my hand their skins are cold like I was sinking down and down under dark water in the middle of school of fish. And those fish try to avoid me at all costs when I sink down and down and can’t get any breath into my lungs when I reach the bottom.

They smell like fish. They use expensive perfumes and aftershaves to hide their true smell but I can smell it through the camouflage. They hide their true colours.

Sometimes I think if I am only one alive in the school of fish.

Next day I am certain me only I am fish, dead fish with dead gills in the middle of living, breathing, loving people. Zombie fish. I don’t exist as a human being, I am fish, only fish and nothing but a fish.
