  • As you walk in God's divine wisdom, you
will surely begin to see a greater measure
of victory and good success in your life.

    Joseph Prince

    Victories are inspiring.

It is thrilling to watch the joy of those who are winning in the Olympics, whose years of diligent training and pursuit of excellence pay off for them in gold medals and the applause of the world.

I use the Bing home page, and every other day they feature a picture of some aspect of the Olympic activities. When they post photos of winners, the overflowing enthusiasm and happiness just spills out of the screen, and will not be contained. The joy in smiles and victory dances is contagious.

Seeing these photos of winners from all countries, and knowing how much their victory means to their nation, I have been thinking about not just the victories being written large, but smaller victories as well.

While most of us will never compete in the Olympics, let alone have a chance to experience victory on that scale, we should not overlook the smaller victories that we can create for ourselves every day.

What about a victory, step by step, over an addiction? What about a victory over depression? What about a victory where we are able to offer forgiveness to someone who has done us wrong? What about a victory when we gain the humility to apologize where we have acted unreasonably or unfairly?

What about a victory where we allow our innate impulse to love others to triumph over hatred?

Whether a victory is Olympic-scale, or personal, we can train ourselves to be Olympiads in optimal human performance in the everyday things of our lives, and reap the deep satisfaction of “winning” at our chosen goals.

Perhaps this is one of the great benefits of watching world class athletes compete and succeed in their chosen sports… That they may inspire us to seek daily our own personal best, and know when we have performed at Gold medal level, even if no one else knows or finds out.

We can rest assured that God knows, and that we have pleased Divine Love, and will harvest the blessings of right action.

This "win," for me, is the real value of victory and its inspirations.
