  • Dad talks cooking..

As I was speaking to my father about the fish supper he was cooking (he did about twelve different variations) the most interesting thing to me was a fish warehouse he spoke of where the fish stays in freezers and never moves, just gets traded like a commodity. It seems, though I've nothing against frozen fish, a shame that food taken from the oceans can be kept for so long unused in a freezer. I picked up my phone from the counter and began to record our conversation.

Our talk meandered about and became less interesting then dad began talking to himself as he does when he cooks, giving priority to his food dishes. This is so many of my conversations with my father though that the recording has a million memories to it of my dad speaking about food, teaching me how to cook as a young child and explaining things to me while our family members walked in and out of various kitchens joining in occasionally. Our dynamic.
