  • The easy things there are the hard things here.
Waking up to pee in the middle of the night and seeing the Milky Way.
Picking wild marijuana off the pathway.
    Climbing a glacier.
    Getting altitude sickness.
Drinking an Everest beer or some raksi.
Meeting a friend one day and watching him almost drown a couple days later.
Following a small man named Mila across shaky bridges, down stone steps, and around piles of buffalo shit.
Making hiking poles out of bamboo sticks.
    Swinging in a hammock.
    Watching open air cremations.

The hard things there are the easy things here.
Finding a Western toilet with toilet paper.
Drinking a good cup of non-instant coffee.
Convincing a taxi driver to take you to the airport.
    Getting a pedicure.
Sleeping without dogs howling, cats meowing, or roommates snoring.
Eating pizza with cow’s cheese and spring rolls that aren’t shaped like calzones.
Talking to people about anything related to the Internet.
Seeing kids and dogs without feeling some sense of sadness.
Having hot water for a shower.
And at certain times, just breathing.
