This will be my last post from South Carolina this go-round. I’m so tired and so ready to be homeward bound! I had to leave with a parting cloud shot, taken on the beach here at Debordieu last night, when I brought Chris’ bike down here to drop it off. I’m down here now, all packed up and ready to hit the road in the wee pre-dawn hours of the morning. I picked brother Jim up at the Myrtle Beach airport this afternoon, showed him the ropes of “Mom-care”, then me and Mom took him to dinner. We declared him “fit for duty”, ready to go live, and proceeded to have a wonderful meal together. We heard all about the great honeymoon trip he and Dorothy had to Turkey last month. Then, I headed down here to Debordieu to spend my last night here.
Fittingly, last night on my way back to Mom’s from Debordieu, I heard James Talyor’s “Carolina In My Mind” on the radio. There is so much from these past 5 weeks that I will take home with me, golden memories of this time with Mom that I will carry with me and cherish, along with pieces of South Carolina – the clouds, the salt marshes, the early mornings and the late evenings, the bike rides and the appreciation of the beauty of this wondrous place…all now a part of me, a part of my soul, infusing my spirit with something it did not have before. A deep connection. A beautiful gift from the universe. All I did was to take the time to notice and accept it.
Now to begin the journey home…back to my life.
