  •        Autumn begins in us before it begins in things
                William Olsen, Sand Theory

Autumn begins in us before it begins in things, the edges
of our dreams gone yellow while dream blackbirds gather
and fly sideways like falling leaves blowing in the wind.

And the wind tears at our hair. We shuffle, shuffle
through a song of leaves. A deep melancholy
resonates in the drum of our hearts

    when we remember
    we have to die.

(This is just a tiny little tribute, compared to his richly textured magnificent work!)
