  • My 'aha' spiritual moment occurred when I was taking part in a meditation programme. We entered the sanctuary, settled cross legged in a circle round a candle surrounded by flowers.

    The sanctuary focaliser told us:

“Harmonise yourself with your interior rhythm to a state that expresses your own essence. Radiate the essential nature of peace and healing out into space and time as far as you can conceive.”

In that moment I felt so much hope; instead of feeling the sorrow of my inability to help victims of war and terminal illness, and abuse I could actually send healing energy to them.

I do not think humans were wired to cope with being bombarded with tragic news from all over the world every day; now that we are connected by new technology.

I believe that is would be easier if we went back to times when the only news we received was when a local farm or village dweller was in trouble, and we had the means to help them personally. Now we are full of grief every day hearing never ending tragic events.

Sometimes in these turbulent times, I need to centre myself and be in the present moment to keep myself from panicking.
