  • Psalm Twenty Three

    The Lord is my Shepherd;
    I shall not want.
He brings me to rest in green pastures:
He leads me to cool refreshing water.
    He restores my soul:
He guides me in the path of goodness for His glory.
When I walk through the Valley of Death,
    I will not be afraid.
    You are with me, God,
Your power and might protects me.
You prepare a feast for me in the middle of my enemies.
You anoint me with soothing oils.
    I want for nothing.
Your goodness and mercy are with me always,
And I will live in Your house forever.

In my garden, I have been harvesting tomatoes for a couple of weeks now. Every morning, I get up and head out to my glider to read and write and watch the birds and thank God for the day. I will wake up tomorrow and do the same thing. There will be more tomatoes ripening. The birds will be singing. The sun will rise. And I will have the opportunity to share another passage with you.

How do I know all this? How do I know the tomatoes will ripen, the birds will sing, the sun will rise? I know because I have faith. And it would appear I am not alone. Briah Jardin's piece this morning speaks of Unconditional Love and how hard it is for people to accept. Clem Page has spoken of faith in several of his pieces. Throughout our lives and our history, our world is full of people who speak about faith, and who demonstrate by their actions that faith is much, much more than a word.

The apostle Paul understood faith. He said:

"Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen...Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the Word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear." Hebrews 11:1, 3 [KJV]

In other words, it is the opposite of the old saying "I'll believe when I see it." With faith, you have to believe it before you see it.

There is plenty of evidence out there, you just have to look. I wish I could somehow wave a wand or cast a spell to make you believe, but that is not within my power. Only the Holy Spirit can do that. So why do I spend my time daily writing these interpretations and sermons about the Psalms?

"So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God." Roman 10:17 [KJV]

I hope your day is blessed.

    ~Fred~

P.S. Sorry, I decided to sing again, no offense taken if you mute.
