  • Great art is the outward expression of an
inner life in the artist, and this inner life will
result in his personal vision of the world.

    Edward Hopper

My days by the sea fill themselves up with the expansive geometry of light.

They are not so much days as the idea of days bleached white as a shell.

Here by the sea, my hours widen around me like flowers opening to the music of waves, waves against sand, waves against sea grass. waves against stone.

The light is complete, like clear water flowing around me. My shadows vanish.

The light is a state of mind, a blessing provided. It is like living at the heart of the sun.

I come burdened with purposes, plans, all my efforts and tiresome trying.

But then it happens. Always. I suddenly become larger than sky.

I stretch myself out from horizon to horizon, filling up with light like noon.

    I become new, fresh as a sea-breeze.

    I become MYSELF.

(Note: This piece was inspired by Edward Hopper's painting "Rooms by the Sea")
