  • William has a girlfriend. She's a couple of months older than him. She is so smart and sweet and has the chubbiest cheeks ever!

His girlfriend's parents are both in the restaurant business. Which means long hours, no insurance, not the easiest life. As a single mom who also works long hours, I know how tough it is on days that the daycares are closed, but we still have to work.

The Monday after Christmas was one of those days. I actually had the day off, but both of the girl's parents had to work. William's girlfriend was going to have to go sit in her father's restaurant all day, so I offered to watch her.

What?!?! I work full-time, am raising a three year old boy alone, and, on my day off, I offer to watch another three year old?!?! Well, that temporary lapse of sanity turned into a fun and beautiful day. The kids were awesome and had a great time. I learned a new appreciation for what William's caregivers do every day. I learned that one bag of goldfish crackers can go a very long way.

I may not offer to do this again for a while, but I don't regret yesterday at all. I have a feeling these two may be friends for life and I hope they always remember their first full day together with me.
