    I still sit silently, concentrating carefully. How must I speak the words so that they make sense to the recipient? Even the interpretation of my silent pondering is incorrect.

    This is what I discover. I am meant to feel this, I am meant to understand what this is like. For it is in the understanding that compassion blooms.

    I work with dogs, horses, cats, and other animals. I see their silent screams in every nook and cranny of life now. They beg us to understand with their eyes, with their ears, with their entire bodies. We are vain, egotistical. We think we know. If only we understood how ignorant we really are.

    They are wise. They are enduring. They are teachers waiting patiently for the lessons to be learned. They are the very essence of love. They are the ultimate forgivers.
