  • A little boy on my train to work this morning did something very odd. He shook his head nonstop till I felt dizzy watching him, and he himself collapsed in a heap of giggles.

    Woe is me I say, for his head-shaking left him feeling no ill-effects, but shattered my idyllic existence.

    Perfectly content believing that I need a gaggle of external aids to lead a happy life, I must now face up to the dreadful truth that I can dispense with all of them and just shake my head to achieve happiness.

    Someone get me a shrink, for my lack of self-worth just went for a toss.

    And to all of you who laugh, be warned. This tyke just proved beyond doubt that another person’s happiness can leave you feeling happy. The horror!

    Drat that kid, and his self-reliant, non-miserable existence……
