  • At Solar Warrior Farm, we have a nice garden that we've had a lot of help in getting started. Our Three Sisters garden was planted to honor the traditional Lakota diet (not all buffalo as some may think). Wagmiza (corn), wagmu (squash) and beans (omnica) grow in harmony as they create good soil environments for one another. Saturday the corn was growing high, highest in the areas of the garden that the buffalo favored when this was their pasture two years ago. Later that night, the #4 Community area of Pine Ridge was hit with a nasty storm and we lost a good bit of the corn.

Just about a mile up the road towards Oglala, the same storm shredded two trailers, destroying everything those families had and doing a lot more damage than bending some corn. We are thankful that our friends are safe, but sad for their loss and devastating need to rebuild.
