  • Now – if there was an award for the “The Great Gate of Ireland” this would surely be the winner.

    I know it would win hands down in the ‘Gate at the end of a Country Lane” category. But even for the overall award in the “The Great Gate of Ireland” – where the grand houses – the likes of Castletown or Powerscourt might be in contention, this is still the gate that should win.

    The judges might comment on its simplicity, the delicate blue colour and its rustic charm, at least these are the things that come to mind every time I pass by on the way to Lough Hyne in West Cork.
