She cringed and crawled inside herself
As she observed the feverish veil of expectation
    Darkening his eyes.
She did not want to hear the words
That jailed her spirit with a gentle fist of love,
As he placed his lust for fame
Upon her tender shoulders, so very young.
She saw the weird excitement twist his
Handsome mouth as he dreamed aloud
The glory of her future life.
“look at the neon lights,” he said,
“One day they'll scream your name.” But the
Light in his eyes was sucked inside, pulsating
Through the secret chambers of his heart.
In every neon light he saw her name,
Each throbbing burst of light proclaimed his name
    With fervent adoration.
    And she his little daughter
    Shivered bent almost broke
Under the strangling yoke of love
    He placed upon her heart
    When with cheeks aglow and
    Restless eyes he told her
Of the life of fame he planned for her
His little gem, his genius of
    A daughter.
