  • When paring life down to the simple art of survival and presence, what provides pleasure becomes minimalistic and simple as well. Motorcycles lend themselves to a laser focus on the basics of existence: food, shelter, water. There is little room for pleasure, aside from the sheer joy and exhilaration of being free in the saddle with the only chore to be present.

McDonald's large iced coffee with sugar free vanilla syrup and a parfait provided a rich pleasure to look forward to as a mid-ride break. It was simple made grand by the road-dirty sweat running down my cheeks and my parched throat, enhancing the opportunity to cool off and catch up on communication with the "real world" which certainly wasn't mine for 21 days.

I remain grateful for the discovery of this treat that was so simple and yet provided such pleasure.
