  • Seven years ago I desired to make a documentary of the brownfield project sited at the old Diamond plant. I was met with resistance or apathy at every turn. I did talk to one of my dad's colleagues who basically said if the waterfront was not built into expensive condo's the town of Fairport would not have enough tax revenue to maintain watch on the very toxic wasted pumped into the cave left by the salt mine. I read how many tons of waste were held captive in salt by the mine and I wanted to get a sense of how much it was. Turned out it weighed more than the current population of elephants in Africa. So, this is a good thing even though a golf course and a vineyard seem like strange bedfellows to a toxic dump.

As some say ... the solution to pollution is dilution... or was that ... the solution to pollution is illusion.

From the website of the company responsible for developing the abandoned Diamond Shamrock land. These are the people who "wrote the book" on brownfield projects. These projects were promoted by Al Gore when he was VP.
