  • We talk, God and I,
    mostly me. He speaks
    in scripture reflected in
    the moments of the day,
    the smile of a stranger,
    the scowls of people lost,
    absorbed in man's affairs.
    But I hear, at least,
    I think I hear, and
    when I hear, I listen,
I think, but am I hearing
    what I think, or thinking
    what I hear?
    It's never crystal clear.
    Sometimes the voice
    is soft and small
    from deep inside
    and what is says
    is good and pure
    and I would rather
    hear that voice than
    hear no voice at all.
    And so I talk,
    and somewhere
    deep inside
    I know
    He listens.
