  • riding the waves of the economic flow
pink slips and lottery tickets litter the floor
the last dream and hope in the cement haven of
droopy curtains and big wheels on balconies

they paint the outside of the buildings every year
trying to make them a happy place a facade of care
inside are dingy halls and florescent lights
and the cry of a child who does not want to eat his spaghetti o's

I put some books outside my door an offering a respite
pretty things full of dreams and dogs and cats and kittens
a pair of sliver heels I was too timid to wear
and a little small fold up chair.
all with a sign that said FREE

I woke in the morning and
    noticed the chair was gone
but puzzled to see the rest still there

    coming home in the evening
I saw the shoes had walked away
and the book of cats and dogs had also gone astray

    the only things left were
    my dreams

    I brought them back inside
