  • Yesterday I bought one of those outdoor fire pits, knowing I wouldn't be using it anytime very soon. The heat index will hit nearly 100 degrees every day this week for the second such a heat wave in a month. But, I couldn't help it. A recent storm dropped a maple branch in my yard that yielded enough wood for many-a-fire come autumn. I cut it into cords with a handsaw, sweating in the summer heat. I look forward to sitting with friends, once again needing something more to keep us warm.
