  • This has been a very rough year for me and my 3 year old son. That story is for another time. The last two years I have taken William to see Santa at Macy's Santaland, but this holiday season was too hectic to make the trip. Unfortunately, this is the year that William actually understands what Santa means and screams with joy whenever we see an image of Santa.

On Christmas Eve, we had to run to get some last minute items for our Christmas dinner. As we were heading home, we walk by the guy who always stands on our corner passing out cards to the local threading salon. Only today, he was dressed as Santa. I thought nothing of it, except my usual "no thank you" to the card offer. William, on the other hand, only saw Santa. "Mamma! Santa!"

With a laugh and then one glance at the pure joy in my son's face, I asked him if he wanted a picture with Santa. What would we do without iPhones? I captured one of the happiest moments of this holiday season for my son...seeing Santa. Never mind that Santa was wearing a placard offering $6 eyebrow threading. My 3 year old didn't mind, even if I think, deep down, he knew that was a little strange.

The economy is bad....maybe Santa needed some extra cash.
