  • The sun setting over the Tuscan hillside framed my view as I sipped the exquisite glass of Montalcino wine, made right here, on the premises. Few moments in my life will compare to that sense of peace and well-being. My husband sitting by my side sighing with satisfaction, as the sun was slowly fading and the purple light permeated the rolling mountains. I don't see my husband sitting in such a blissful state very often. Mostly, he is rigidly hunched over his Blackberry, silently cursing this transaction or that correspondence from his high-power clients. He jets about the country most weeks, seeing the interior of one airport to another, one faceless hotel room to meeting room and home again. His daily pace is relentless and yet, here he was, finally in the moment. He was able to let go and release himself to the natural beauty which surrounded us. It reminded me of the days, long ago when we would spend hours in each others company without the distraction of electronic devices. This day had been spent driving through vineyards, olive groves and the forests of ValD'Orcia. We ended the drive seeing the simplicity of a Romanesque church, its strong religiosity untrammeled by time and weather. This moment felt like that too. A holy moment, untouched by intrusions. A memory to be shared for all time.
