  • Well after a few months of short spurts of work and long periods of waiting the Budget Press Review #5 is now finished. Picked them up at the printer Wednesday, spent a good part of Thursday stuffing envelopes, and yesterday spent sixty bucks on postage, filling orders and sending copies to the contributors. And then began the truly fun part of the whole Budget Press process, the distribution. Even though id someone orders a copy of the Review they have to pay, the vast majority of copies will be had for free at whatever places I drop them off. So yesterday, after leaving the post office (and grading some papers) I drove around to cafes and used bookstores in San Diego, throwing down copies on the free reading shelves along with the weeklies and flyers and apartment guides. I took pictures of every place I left some, something I am going to do this summer until they are all gone. Rebecca’s, LeStat’s, Filter, Adam Ave. Books, Twiggs, Claire DeLune, 5th Ave. Books, Bluestocking Books, all have been Budget Pressed with photographic documentation. Today I will be going to Rivercide to continue the distribution in the old stomping grounds. Have some contributors to meet, and then I’m gonna go to my old stomping grounds downtown and leave my mark.

However the real distribution will not begin for a couple more weeks. This summer so far has been nothing but work, I took on a bunch of summer classes this year and I’ve haven’t been this busy over a summer since grad school. But July 26 classes end, and I’m jumping in my car and taking a long slow trip up the Pacific coast all the way to Seattle, dropping off Budget Press along the way, before Fall classes begin.

And now it’s time to start on Budget Press Review #6!

If you would like a copy of the Budget Press Review #5 for yourself and can’t make it to a random west coast café, you can order a copy online or get the address to order by mail for only $5 total here - Budget Press Review #5.
