  • I moved away from home 12 years ago at the beginning of my second year of University. I came back for the summers and then spent a year back home in Toronto before heading to Boston to do my Masters. For 12 years I've been away from my twin sister Beth which is all the home I ever needed. In Boston I met my husband and he became my best friend but I was still missing Beth. For years I moved around from city to city and job to job. Never really feeling at home because Beth was always missing from my life.

In 2009 I started volunteering at a rescue in Chicago. It was there I started to find understanding and peace in my life. The touch of a misunderstood dog, the longing in their eyes and I had found my way home again. Maybe it was really a rebirth. And although my sister and I were miles apart we found our way home together through these homeless dogs.

I was lucky to find my home wherever I am. Without my sister my heart is always a little heavy but as I go to work everyday I think of her and my heart is lighter again.
