  • After the moodiness of the London Underground and the grey crush and chaos of Shanghai, I feel fortunate to ride past this view every morning. Still getting used to the spaciousness of the Pacific Northwest, where cities give way to wilderness abruptly. You'd think that more space would equal less friction, but this doesn't always seem the case. It's the densest cities - Tokyo, Shanghai - where people are crammed together, where tolerance for other people occupying your space, your sidewalk, your air appears greater.
