  • Years ago when we were first married and my wife was pregnant with our first son, we found ourselves downtown short on cash. I was going to school at the time, collecting my 52/20 and we were living with her parents.

After buying whatever we were there for, we counted our money and found we had just enough for bus fare with just a little left over. While waiting for the bus, I spied a flower seller on the corner, so with our remaining money, I bought a small bunch of violets.

She always remembered that and the sheer silliness of it. Thats why Frank Sinatra's " I Bought You Violets For Your Fur" was one of her favorite songs.
